Electrolysis or Laser hair removal?
Both electrolysis and laser hair removal offer a long term solution for the removal of unwanted hair, however, only electrolysis is medically approved and endorsed by the FDA as a 100% permanent removal method. Laser can achieve a significant reduction in the amount of hair growing in a certain area, but it can’t remove 100% of those unwanted hairs. Often, those who have paid hundreds of pounds for laser hair removal will find themselves turning to electrolysis.
Electrolysis can treat hair of any colour, whilst laser is less effective on lighter coloured hairs. Only electrolysis can successfully remove red, blonde or grey hair. Those grey whiskers that have started to appear on your chin? Laser quakes in fear, only electrolysis can save the day!
Furthermore, there is a small risk of paradoxical hypertrichosis associated with the use of laser hair removal, particularly when used on facial hair. Paradoxical hypertrichosis occurs when the fine, vellus hair that covers the majority of the body is stimulated to grow thicker and darker, transforming into so called ‘terminal’ hair.
Both treatments have their advantages and disadvantages, but electrolysis has remained the only certified permanent method of hair removal for many decades; surviving for that length of time in a competitive market is a sure sign of a successful treatment.
