What happens during the consultation?

Why do I need a consultation? Is it necessary? I’ve had electrolysis before!

Yes, it is necessary. Even if you have had electrolysis before. Even if you have had multiple sessions of electrolysis before. Even if you are the electrolysis master of the world. All new clients require a consultation before any treatment can start. Why? Well, firstly it is a nice opportunity for client and therapist to meet, before any zapping begins. Secondly, it allows the opportunity for a discussion between client and therapist regarding treatment plans and expectations; we can check we are all on the same page. Finally, it allows the opportunity for the therapist to ensure that electrolysis will be safe for the client.

The consultation usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete, and begins with some form filling (yawn!), and a delve into a client’s medical history. Only necessary infomation is requested, and all client information is treated with the strictest confidentiality. There are some medical conditions that mean treatment may have to be modified in some way, or perhaps even postponed. Honesty is important here.

Following this, a brief explanation of electrolysis and the hair growth cycle is provided, arming the client with the information needed to understand how electrolysis works, and how permanent hair removal is achieved.

Then, the clients hair removal history and skincare routines will be discussed, providing the therapist with vital information with which a treatment plan can be devised. This personalised treatment plan will suit the needs and expectations of the client, taking into account many factors, such as hair density, skin conditon, treatment frequency as well as any limiting factors, such as the presence of certain medical conditions.

Attitudes to having a consultation can vary hugely, with sometimes clients finding the process daunting, tedious or even irritating, and so I ask you to make the most of it. Ask questions, be honest and together we can start the journey to becoming hair free permanently!
